![]() If she needs to defend herself, Mion is also the only one who does not wield a weapon-her weapons are her body and strategical mind. No one but the twins themselves seemed to be aware of this, and it is never brought up in the anime nor hinted. They swapped the day the oni tattoo was to be branded, resulting in the younger sister "Shion" (Mion) becoming the next heir. Mion and Shion intentionally switched places when they were young, because "Shion" (current Mion) felt it was unfair for only one of them to attend family meetings. The tattoo is a right reserved for the oldest child and thus the heir, but Mion was actually born as the younger sister, and therefore born with the name Shion. However, one of the TIPS reveals that she was once driven to kill as a result of jealousy over the attention Keiichi was getting from others, which she responded to by decided to eliminate the "competition" and keep Keiichi for herself.Due to being the next heir, Mion was branded with the oni (鬼, ogre or demon) tattoo on her back. It is revealed and very often strongly hinted that she has a crush on Maebara Keiichi, which she expresses by picking on and teasing him at every possible occasion.ĭespite Mion's wild personality, she is noticeably the only main character who does not commit murder or becomes dangerously violent ( possibly excluding Furude Rika). However, no matter how boyish she acts, she also has a girly side when opening her heart, mainly to her twin sister Sonozaki Shion. Mion is a tomboy and calls herself " oji-san" throughout the games, manga and anime. Mion is 17, according to Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri, with a birthday in early February. The 50,000 yen that was announced as the winning prize at a game tournament is said to come from her own pocket. As the Sonozaki family is quite rich, it is obvious that Mion has a large allowance. Because her mother, Sonozaki Akane, married a man from outside Hinamizawa, the heritage was passed immediately down to Mion rather than Akane, as she was the next oldest female. She is the granddaughter of the current Sonozaki head Sonozaki Oryō. As the oldest in the class, she is the Class Representative, often shortened to Class Rep. After her death in the manga, Kohta and his daughter are approached by two twin girls with ribbons in their hair, heavily implied to have some connection to Lucy.Mion is the heir of the head of the Sonozaki family, and is the leader of the Hinamizawa School club. She never refers to herself as Lucy, but thinks of herself as "Kaede", which is the name she uses to sign her letter to Kohta in the manga. However, Lucy still isn't above acts of jealously, once using her vectors to shove Yuka when she saw her holding hands with Kouta. ![]() As such, she refrains from killing in his presence, except in the anime, when at the end, she kills a whole army in front of him. Despite this lack of concern for human life she will not harm Kohta, and cries and apologizes for killing his family in a fit of jealousy she loves Kohta, but due to her vengeful nature, she believes he will be content without her existence. She is incredibly sadistic, amputating limbs and blinding foes, leaving them to bleed to death rather than killing them outright. She seems to lack empathy and kills without much concern and normally as a first reaction. Consequently, she discounts non-diclonii, claiming they are not real people, to the point of telling Nana that she has "not killed anyone yet". Lucy hates humans mainly because of how she was treated by her human peers as a child, of whom she eventually killed several after they captured a puppy Lucy had been caring for and beat it to death in front of her. She was in love with Satoshi, and blames the Three Families of Hinamizawa for his disappearance in Watanagashi-hen and Meakashi-hen (the latter told from her point of view) this, along with a different demonic sadistic personality she manifested in her grief, drove her to mass murder. In spite of all this, she and Mion maintain a close relationship. She was sent by the Sonozaki family to a private boarding school, but escaped and returned to live near her hometown, where she lives with Kasai. Since then, she switched her identity of Mion with Shion, the younger sister. Right before tattooing the symbol of an oni, which is reserved for the older sister, she was mistakenly identified as Shion, the younger sister, which means that she was actually born as Mion Sonozaki, the older sister. Their first switch took place when they were little. In spite of their different personalities, she and Mion often switch places, and it can be difficult to distinguish between them. Shion is Mion's identical twin sister, who currently resides in Okinomiya.
